Ellen Page Online celebrates its 9th anniversary / New video gallery as well as new design and layout coming soon!
EPO 9th AnniversaryActually I wanted to introduce a brand new video gallery as well as a revised design and layout of the website on the occasion of its 9th anniversary. I tried my best by spending nearly every bit of spare time on this venture, but time eventually worked against me. There was simply too much to do within a short period of time. Perhaps the situation becomes more understandable when I say that the data including title, YouTube ID, thumbnail url, size, length, duration of more than 1100 videos needs to be manully ported to the new system. I have already processed 7 out of 9 categories with around 600 videos still being on my to-do list. After I am done with this task I will take care of the customization of the gallery script so it blends in with the rest of EPO. It will surely take a couple more weeks to get everything done, but I'm optimistic that the end result will be worth the effort invested.
The upcoming video gallery will be modern and offer a lot of useful benefits. It will not only be fully searchable, but also comes with a tag feature which makes it easier to find the videos you are looking for. My hope is also that it makes my job as an administrator much more comfortable compared to the existing method. To be honest, it was always very time-consuming to add new videos to both the English and the German version of EPO since I had to edit and post while doing every step twice. It usually took between 15 to 60 minutes to edit, prepare and finally upload a single video to the site depending on its length and size. There were times when more than 10 new clips concurrently popped up because of a recent event or a movie release. Furthermore, it was a real pain in the ass to rerrange the chronological order of the existing videos when an older video appeared subsequently. But this will be a thing of the past shortly. I hope you will like and appreciate the new section as soon as it is finalized.

For other parts of the website I am planning some minor adjustments in regard to the layout and design which will give EPO a smoother and cleaner look. With these actions I want to send a clear message to all devoted fans and visitors to this site out there: Ellen Page Online (EPO) is still alive! I'm aware it was very quiet in this place for a while, but I can assure you there were some good reasons for that. Please don't take this as an excuse for everything, but I don't think there was any important news to be shared since HRCF's Time to Thrive Conference and the release of »X-Men: Days of Future Past«. While »Into the Forest« and »Freeheld« were finally produced in the second half of 2014, Ellen went to Japan as well as Brazil at the beginning of this year to film at least one LGBT-related documentary.
Some of you might also remember my post in September where I exposed my innermost feelings in regard to the current motiviation I have as well as the reasons that fundamentally affected my attidude towards this project after so many years. I know it's such a cliche, but times can change and priorities may shift. Just imagine you are having around 4 hours of spare time on each working day. Within this timeframe you are supposed to do your chores, cook, go shopping, write and reply to emails and pursue your hobbies, which include maintaining a celebrity fan site among many other things. On some days you simply don't have the time to take care of everything, or you come home from work completely exhausted and you can't wait to crawl into bed at night. Then one thing leads to another and all your future plans are turned upside down for an indeterminate period of time.
I guess everything would be so much easier if I were to only repost and reblog Ellen's latest photos on Instagram, current news or random videos from YouTube, or consider closing the site for good or at least hand it over to another person. But that's not my style and I am not the kind of person who would throw everything away on a whim. The Bottomline is that I put so many hours and conitinued efforts as well as money in this personal project; giving up isn't an option. I also know that a group of faithful visitors and long-standing fans count on me and still appreciate all of the work I have done and will continue to do. This factor, in itself, is reason enough to carry on.

Additionally, I don't want to disregard the positive things I experienced. One of the best benefits of running a website of this kind is that you are getting in touch with many different people from all over the globe. Just recently, I got to know one person from Slovakia who happens to be a fan of Ellen and quickly became a close friend of mine. Furthermore, I will never forget certain magicial moments and the exceptional support I once received from companies like Warner Bros. Germany or Rhino Records.

I would be grateful if many of you will keep faith with EPO and still consider it a great source for everything Ellen Page. That being said, please know that your feedback is very important to me and always welcome! Make sure to use the comment function below, sign the guestbook, share stuff from EPO and your thoughts on Twitter, Facebook or any social network!

Happy 9th Anniversary!
~Dominik, with Wayne and Trisha #TeamEPO

»Juno« director Jason Reitman casts Ellen Page as Han Solo for »Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back« live-read
Ellen Page will be taking on the part of dashing smuggler Han Solo in director Jason Reitman's live stage-reading of »Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back« at the Ace Hotel Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday night. Other members of the cast include Aaron Paul as Luke Skywalker, Jessica Alba as Princess Leia, J.K. Simmons as Darth Vader, Stephen Merchant as C-3PO, Dennis Haysbert as Lando Calrissian, and Kevin Pollak as Yoda.

Film Independent - Live Read: The Empire Strikes Back

Casting an actress for the role of the captain of the Millennium Falcon felt as natural as it may seem surprising for Reitman. "Without Solo, it would be very easy for viewers to look at Star Wars cynically, he told Entertainment Weekly. "With him, we feel like we have an ally in this, and it allows the viewer to get closer to Luke and Leia. In casting Han, the most important thing is: Who has the most interesting, ironic approach to life? And when I think of that, I think of Ellen Page. She's a small human being who has the energy to fill Madison Square Garden." Asked about the fact that the grudging romance between Han and Leia will eventually be played out by two actresses, he answered that chemistry is chemistry, whether it be between a man and a woman, two women, or two men and he has no doubt that Ellen Page could have chemistry with anybody.

The major point of the live-read series is to take classic scripts and turn them into something we've never seen before. They are about experimenting with perceptions and expectations, and encouraging fans to consider the story and characters in different ways — even if they're only hearing about the performance from afar. The performances are designed as one-night-only experiences, especially since none of them have been recorded or shared. While the tickets for this upcoming event are already sold out, there will be a stand-by list for fans who want to give it a try. More details can be found at www.filmindependent.org.

Ellen Page shows off her taut tummy in W Magazine's October 2014 issue
Ellen is one of five cover stars of W Magazine's upcoming October 2014 issue, »The New Royals«. It will feature twelve standout women from the worlds of society, fashion, and show business, who share a rare combination of strength, charisma, and character and have been divided into new and classic royalty — a distinction based on time spent in the spotlight, more than anything else. Photographed in a classic studio setting with a gray background by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Page wears a Giorgio Armani jacket, a Gucci shirt, a Eugenia Kim hat and a Ralph Lauren Purple Label tie for the eye-catching cover shot.

“I was 10 when I started acting. A casting director came to my school looking for kids. I auditioned for a TV movie called Pit Pony, and I got it. Acting became an immediate fixation. I was a child, but I was so ambitious.
At 17, I costarred in Hard Candy, about a pedophile and his victim, whom I played. My character had to castrate the pedophile. I’ve always loved learning things for a part, and I remember researching castration and thinking, This is so interesting. I’m a nerd that way: I love the challenges of this job.”

The issue hits newsstands on October 9th. Scans of the two-page feature will be added to the gallery as soon as I can find a supplier here in Germany!
